Alex Passeroni

Software engineer and game developer

About Me

I'm a software engineer from Rhode Island who has worked in the fields of defense and gaming since 2014. I'm currently self-employed working as an independent and freelance game developer. Regardless of the project I'm working on, my goal is simply to work with good people, make cool things, and learn as much as I can along the way.

My Skills

These are the languages and tools that I have worked with most throughout my career.

  • C++

  • Java

  • HLSL

  • Lua

  • Bash

  • Unity

My Experience

GLHF Studios

I started GLHF Studios as a way to get back to what got me into software development in the first place and pursue my passion for game development. As an independent and freelance game developer, I design and implement game mechanics, systems, and features for my own games and those of my clients.

Raytheon Technologies

As a Senior Software Engineer on the U.S. Navy Zumwalt class destroyer program, I played a pivotal role in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software for the most technologically advanced class of naval destroyers built to date.

Maple AUTOBRAWL

Maple AUTOBRAWL is a fast-paced autobattle game where players assemble powerful teams of iconic MapleStory monsters to duke it out in action-packed brawls. The game was developed on the MapleStory Worlds platform and was accepted into the initial cohort of the Creator Circle Program sponsored by Nexon/Toben Studios. It is currently the most played game developed by a content creator based in North or South America.

TileQuest

TileQuest is a tile-merging game akin to "Threes" or "2048", but infused with elements commonly found in RPGs. Instead of numbers, tiles contain characters, items, and locations, which interact in interesting ways when they merge or collide with each other. The goal is to take the familiar RPG gameplay loop of slaying monsters, looting items, completing quests, and leveling up heroes, and package it as a mobile-friendly puzzle/strategy game. The game is currently in development.

Asteroid Miner

Asteroid Miner is an arcade style game that I developed as part of a week-long game jam where the goal was to reimagine the classic Atari arcade game, "Asteroids" with some sort of twist. I chose to add a mining mechanic where the player has to deploy astronauts to mine resources from asteroids to increase their score.

AutoBattleBots

I had an idea for an auto-battle game inspired by BattleBots which resulted in this prototype. In this game, players assemble robots from modular parts and watch them battle in a round-based elimination tournament. As an auto-battler, each robot is completely controlled by AI, with their behavior being influenced only by the parts they have equipped.

Threes Clone

This was an educational project that I made to go through the process of making a complete game. In order to remove any non-technical roadblocks, I chose to create a "clone" of the popular mobile game "Threes" which I've always admired for its clever and minimalist design.
